It would best if the CVS revisions were not hardwired in the web page,
but if the revision tag for the current release were used instead.

That's fine if you want to make the change, and assuming it works. But
did you try the existing links? I got an error that definitely was not
there yesterday.

I did try the links and they failed. I didn't bother working out why,
although I suppose that wouldn't hurt ;-)

Easy: I typo'd. I switched the revision numbers for gas and ld.
Anyway, please do check in your change. Then I'll remember to
reference the tag next release also.

I'm afraid I don't have write access to /cvs/binutils/htdocs.

Your URLs now don't work for me either. Something is wrong with
cvsweb.
Overseers, any idea why:
http://sources.redhat.com/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/~checkout~/src/gas/NEWS?only_with_tag=binutils-2_15&content-type=text/plain&cvsroot=src
returns a server error?

Because it should be this:
http://sources.redhat.com/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/~checkout~src/gas/NEWS?only_with_tag=binutils-2_15&content-type=text/plain&cvsroot=src
Dunno why the cvsweb download link is broken.

Actually, I'm not sure that link is right either, although it does
work. Perhaps cvsweb.cgi should be removing the '/' in
"/src/gas/NEWS" before it calls CVS.
It appears that CVS did change to detect this case:
2003-11-18 Derek Price <derek@ximbiot.com>
* modules.c (do_module): Reject absolute paths.
(Report and suggested fix from Tony Hoyle <tmh@nodomain.org>.)

OK, I did a quick patch to cvsweb.cgi to make this work again. Your
original URL should also now work, and is probably the right one to
use.
I suppose that we should update cvsweb.cgi at some point. There are
certainly newer versions out there.

Thanks! This used to work; I'm guessing the recent CVS changes on
sourceware broke it (but it broke at least a week or so ago). Anyway,
it works now.

Unfortunately, if this ever worker before, it doesn't work now. I had
to revert to using revision numbers for 2.16. The failure mode may not
have been obvious; it works, but you get HEAD's NEWS instead.
