this simple patch simply converts coff-rs6000.c to ISO-C and removes the PARAMS macro.

Checked simply by recompiling.

PS. If you are going to do more of these you might also like to replace
occurrences of the PTR macro with "void *".

Ok, I will add that to my todo list.

How about declaring all the macros in ansidecl.h that are for pre-C90
compatibility obsolete and removing their definitions once all uses in the
gcc and src repositories are gone? That's ANSI_PROTOTYPES PTR PTRCONST
LONG_DOUBLE PARAMS VPARAMS VA_START VA_OPEN VA_CLOSE VA_FIXEDARG CONST
VOLATILE SIGNED PROTO EXFUN DEFUN DEFUN_VOID AND DOTS NOARGS (plus
definitions as macros of const volatile signed). Some of these macros may
already have been eliminated (GCC's system.h poisons eight of them, for
example, and some more are not defined if IN_GCC) and despite the comments
on ansidecl.h claiming to be from the GNU C Library, the glibc copy was
removed in 1997 so it's purely a libiberty header now.

Why not, but this is a rather large work: PTR and PARAMS are still present in many bfd files.

I will add this on my todo list.

Tristan.

As discussed...

Sanity checked by building for powerpc64-ibm-aix6.

Ok for trunk ?

I guess quite a few declaration can be removed since the definitions are
now providing the prototypes, and a few more by moving the include of
"coffcode.h" after the definitions it uses.

Andreas.

That's asking for more work than initially planned, and also asking for more checking.

Can we do that incrementally: first the obvious conversion, then the small reorg ?

Tristan.

BFD style is to have the (...) on the next line, regardless of whether
it fits on the current one:

static bfd_boolean xcoff64_reloc_type_br

Same here.

Just drop the (PTR) conversion. (void *) casts aren't necessary
and tend to make things less readable. We certainly won't be able
to enforce explicit (void *) casts for future changes, so the code
would become inconsistent.

Same throughout.

More cases where the params should stay on their current line.

OK with those changes, thanks.

Ok, I always was troubled by this style, as it is not always followed. eg bfd-in2.h:

extern bfd_size_type bfd_bread (void *, bfd_size_type, bfd *);
extern bfd_size_type bfd_bwrite (const void *, bfd_size_type, bfd *);
extern int bfd_seek (bfd *, file_ptr, int);
extern file_ptr bfd_tell (bfd *);
extern int bfd_flush (bfd *);
extern int bfd_stat (bfd *, struct stat *);

Anyway, I will fix that.

Agreed - Tristan a patch to obsolete this target is pre-approved.
