This is make check on PowerPC Linux on APUS (Amiga with PPC PowerUP
card). I used binutils 2.9.1.0.25, egcs-1.1.2, and glibc-2.1.1 for
the build. The kernel version is 2.2.8d. Following the 'make check'
results are the tar-gzipped-MIME binutils log files.

This works just fine for me. Maybe something is hosed in your build
environment? Note that it's unsafe to strip binaries with binutils
2.9.1.0.25 on PPC.

Franz.

I have the same problem on Alpha, FYI. Almost identical versions of the
libs and tools.

Here are some lines from the binutils.log file:

spawn /drives/work1/src/binutils-bin/binutils/ar rc tmpdir/artest.a tmpdir/abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1 tmpdir/abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz2
spawn failed

In fact, according to binutils.log, DejaGnu never managed to
successfully run a program.

If you can run the program /drives/work1/src/binutils-bin/binutils/ar
by hand, then I think the problem is in DejaGnu. For some reason, it
is failing to actually start the program.

If you can not run the program by hand, then the bug is somewhere in
the way the programs were built.

I have seen that one before. Make sure you have devpts in kernel.
I have

none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0

in /etc/fstab.

I have seen that one before. Make sure you have devpts in kernel.
   I have

When I look in /proc/devices I get:

amiga1:/proc# more devices
Character devices:
  1 mem
  2 pty
  3 ttyp
  4 ttyS
  5 cua
  6 lp
  7 vcs
  9 st
 10 misc
 29 fb
128 ptm
136 pts

Block devices:
  1 ramdisk
  2 fd
  3 ide0
  7 loop
 11 sr
 37 Z2RAM
 43 nbd
amiga1:/proc#

I put this line in fstab, but when I try mount /dev/pts, I get "mount
point does not exist". Looking in /dev/ there is no "pts" and MAKEDEV
does not know how to make it. Can someone tell me the correct parameters
for mknod?

   none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0

   in /etc/fstab.

/dev/pts is a mounting point. Just do

# mkdir /dev/pts

   # mkdir /dev/pts

Yup. That fixed it.

I've attached the results of the make check for binutils-2.9.4.0.7 on
my PPC APUS machine.

I double-checked my kernel (has devpts support) and already had /dev/pts
created and the filesystem mounted there. For some reason, I'm still
having problems getting expect/dejagnu to finish a testsuite run on the
binutils tree (or any other, for that matter). Any other ideas? (Alpha
Linux, glibc 2.1.1)
