I'd like to backport the following 3 patches to the 2.15 branch:

It fixes the only failure in the gas testsuite on SPARC.
Built and tested on sparc-sun-solaris2.8 with GCC 3.4.1. I also verified
that GCC 3.4.2pre can now be bootstrapped with binutils 2.15 on that
platform. OK for the branch?
