Hi Nick,

There are no ChangeLog entries for

http://sourceware.org/ml/binutils-cvs/2005-05/msg00128.html

Also many aclocal.m4 files in binutils are generated files:

bash-3.00$ grep "generated automatically" */aclocal.m4
bfd/aclocal.m4:# generated automatically by aclocal 1.9.5 -*- Autoconf -*-
binutils/aclocal.m4:dnl aclocal.m4 generated automatically by aclocal 1.4-p6
gas/aclocal.m4:# generated automatically by aclocal 1.9.5 -*- Autoconf -*-
gprof/aclocal.m4:# generated automatically by aclocal 1.9.3 -*- Autoconf -*-
intl/aclocal.m4:dnl aclocal.m4 generated automatically by aclocal 1.3
ld/aclocal.m4:dnl aclocal.m4 generated automatically by aclocal 1.4-p6
opcodes/aclocal.m4:# generated automatically by aclocal 1.9.3 -*- Autoconf -*-

It doesn't make much sense to change them by hand.
