I double checked. The patch is applied in the 2.17.50.0.3 binary rpms.
Have you checked the correct linker was used?

In my release note:
----
If you don't use
# rpmbuild -ta binutils-xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.tar.bz2
to compile the Linux binutils, please read patches/README in source
tree to apply Linux patches if there are any.
----
Have you followed it?

If you follow README for the latest Linux binutils, that patch should
be applied.

I tried the latest version. It didn't help that much. I then
hand-applied the patch that caches the value of the kept symbols, and
that helped a dramatic amount. I would strongly argue for the inclusion
of that patch. I think it was the one from the guy with the big Oracle
program, or some such.

Try the latest version. There may not be a great deal of improvement.
