If I do exactly that, then here's what I get:
  # ./configure --local
  # make

So, I guess you did configure it (./ct-ng menuconfig) before you run the
actual build, right?

None of the crosstool-NG scripts call grep with '-qw'.

The only solution I know of right now is to de-install ccache.
