Hi,

I'm following the instructions in the x-compiler faq.
I'm trying to build a x-compiler for a target of i370-ibm-mvs on a host of
i586-pc-linux-gnu (RedHat 6.2).

(Actually, for gcc I'm using "i370-imb-openedition" but in binutils, the
linker ld prefers the above target.)

The target is one that is supported by the gcc configure.

In trying to configure binutils (version 2.10) with the following:

	configure --target=i370-ibm-mvs

When it gets down to configuring gas I get the following error message:

configure: error: GAS does not know what format to use for target i370-ibm-mvs

(will get the same thing for "i370-ibm-openedition")

This seems to be an accepted target for gcc, but not for binutils (I
actually had gcc half compiled before I discovered I was missing gas). Any
ideas how to go about compiling the compiler in this situation?

Thanks in advance.

E.
