Subject: Updated: tzcode, tzdata 2020c
Date: Sun, 18 Oct 2020 09:48:38 -0600	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <b3173293-94c9-3828-d812-516e94c40cbf@SystematicSw.ab.ca> (raw)

The following packages have been updated in the Cygwin distribution:

* tzcode 2020c
* tzdata 2020c

The Time Zone Database (often called tz, tzdb, or zoneinfo) contains
data that represents the history of local time for many locations
around the world.
It is updated periodically to reflect changes made by political bodies
to daylight saving (summer time) rules, UTC offsets, and time zone
boundaries.
The tzcode package provides the tzselect, zic, zdump utilities.

News for the tz utilities

  Changes to build procedure

    Rearguard tarballs now contain an empty file pacificnew.
    Some older downstream software expects this file to exist.
    (Problem reported by Mike Cullinan.)

News for the tz database

  Briefly:
    Fiji starts DST later than usual, on 2020-12-20.

  Changes to future timestamps

    Fiji will start DST on 2020-12-20, instead of 2020-11-08 as
    previously predicted. DST will still end on 2021-01-17.
    (Thanks to Raymond Kumar and Alan Mintz.) Assume for now that
    the later-than-usual start date is a one-time departure from the
    recent pattern.
