There has been a new release of the official CMake (2.4.7-1).
This is a minor release from to 2.4.6 to 2.4.7.

Here are the required files:

http://www.cmake.org/files/cygwin/setup.hint
http://www.cmake.org/files/cygwin/cmake-2.4.7-1.tar.bz2
http://www.cmake.org/files/cygwin/cmake-2.4.7-1-src.tar.bz2

The previous version should be cmake-2.2.3-1 and the current
version should be cmake-2.4.7-1.

Thanks.

Uploaded and 2.4.6-1 removed.

I got this report from a cmake user:

I had some trouble myself when I tested the install. I had to unpack
the tar file by hand. I must have messed something up. Any ideas
what? Once unpacked by hand the cmake install was fine.

I have tried again myself, and if I do a reinstall, the download part
works fine. But the install stage happens really fast. I suspect there
maybe an error flashing by, but I can't see it. Is there a way to
debug setup or get more verbose output? Thanks.

Look at /var/log/setup.log.full for a reasonably fine-grained trace of
setup's activity. If there is an I/O error, it should show that. Also,
it will contain the output your postinstall script produces.

So, it looks like my tar file is not correct. However, I used the same
process to create it that have been doing for several releases now.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Thanks.

I got an error similar to the one the other user reported to you (no
source or binary in any form). I've attached the setup log. The
following entry did catch my attention:

2007/07/29 16:47:36 io_stream_cygfile: fopen(/etc/setup/cmake.lst.gz)
failed 2 No such file or directory

OK, I am lost here. Apparently my recent CMake 2.4.7 files are broken
for cygwin setup for some reason. Has anything changed in cygwin setup
recently in the untar section? Is there a more verbose mode that setup
can be run in?

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

No, nothing's changed in the untar code in forever. I debugged it and
the problem is that setup does not recognise the file as a valid tar
archive. What version of tar did you use to create it?

The problem is the 'magic' field of the tar header (offset 257). Setup
expects this to contain "ustar" followed by two spaces and a trailing
NUL:

    62    if (original->peek (magic, longest_magic) > 0)
    63      {
    64        if (memcmp (&magic[257], "ustar\040\040\0", 8) == 0)
    65          {
    66            /* tar */
    67            archive_tar *rv = new archive_tar (original);
    68            if (!rv->error ())
    69              return rv;
    70            return NULL;
    71          }

However, the cmake-2.4.7-1.tar does not contain this magic field (it
contains "ustar\0" followed by "00") so setup does not think it's a
valid tar file. I tried simply repacking the file with command line tar
and it has the proper magic, so I can only conclude that whatever tar or
tar options you used were not compatible.

Setup should give a better log file diagnostic in this case though, and
I'll work on that now.

We are using lib tar to create it. It is part of CMake called CPack
which is used to create various
packages automatically. It worked fine for the last release of cmake,
and it works fine from tar
on the command line. The command line tar must be more forgiving. I
will try to figure out where
the magic has gone...

Thanks much, for looking into this for me.

OK, I looked at the libtar code and found this:
  if (t->options & TAR_GNU)
    strncpy(t->th_buf.magic, "ustar  ", 8);
  else
  {
    strncpy(t->th_buf.version, TVERSION, TVERSLEN);
    strncpy(t->th_buf.magic, TMAGIC, TMAGLEN);
  }

#define  TMAGIC    "ustar"  /* ustar and a null */
#define  TMAGLEN    6
#define  TVERSION  "00"  /* 00 and no null */
#define  TVERSLEN  2

So, that explains why the tar file works, it is just not a gnu tar file.
Something must have changed in my code because the 2.4.6 version
has the gnu style header and the 2.4.7 version has the other header.
I will try and figure out what changed and create a new release.

OK, I have figured out what happened. CMake 2.4.7-1 was the first release
of cmake done with cpack for cygwin. It was not generating gnu style
tar files.
I have changed that, so it should work with setup now.

Corinna, can you please upload:

http://www.cmake.org/files/cygwin/cmake-2.4.7-2.tar.bz2
http://www.cmake.org/files/cygwin/cmake-2.4.7-2-src.tar.bz2

cmake-2.4.7-1 should be removed as it does not work with setup.

Thanks for all the help.

I've also updated setup to accept the tar magic of just "ustar\0", so
those cpack tar files should now work (I tested with the cmake package
and it extracted OK.) And if it happens again the user should get a
dialog about invalid tar format instead of it silently just doing
nothing.

Of course this won't take effect until the next setup release (unless
you use a snapshot) so bumping the cmake packages is still a good idea.

Sounds good, thanks again for the help. I never would have figured this
out, and it sounds like
we both learned something about tar magic...

I just found a small problem with the 2.4.7-2, and have removed it from
our web site.
I will assume it has not yet been downloaded, and will but up a new
2.4.7-2 in the morning.

OK, 2.4.7-2 is ready for download here:

http://www.cmake.org/files/cygwin/cmake-2.4.7-2.tar.bz2
http://www.cmake.org/files/cygwin/cmake-2.4.7-2-src.tar.bz2

These files have the gnu tar magic in them.

Thanks.

Uploaded and 2.4.7-1 removed.

Thanks,
