Look at /var/log/setup.log.full for a reasonably fine-grained trace of setup's activity. If there is an I/O error, it should show that. Also, it will contain the output your postinstall script produces. Is there a more verbose mode that setup > can be run in? No, nothing's changed in the untar code in forever. I debugged it and the problem is that setup does not recognise the file as a valid tar archive. What version of tar did you use to create it? The problem is the 'magic' field of the tar header (offset 257). Setup expects this to contain "ustar" followed by two spaces and a trailing NUL: 62 if (original->peek (magic, longest_magic) > 0) 63 { 64 if (memcmp (&magic[257], "ustar\040\040\0", 8) == 0) 65 { 66 /* tar */ 67 archive_tar *rv = new archive_tar (original); 68 if (!rv->error ()) 69 return rv; 70 return NULL; 71 } However, the cmake-2.4.7-1.tar does not contain this magic field (it contains "ustar\0" followed by "00") so setup does not think it's a valid tar file. I tried simply repacking the file with command line tar and it has the proper magic, so I can only conclude that whatever tar or tar options you used were not compatible. Setup should give a better log file diagnostic in this case though, and I'll work on that now. Brian ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 17+ messages in thread

It is part of CMake called CPack which is used to create various packages automatically. It worked fine for the last release of cmake, and it works fine from tar on the command line. The command line tar must be more forgiving. I will try to figure out where the magic has gone... Something must have changed in my code because the 2.4.6 version has the gnu style header and the 2.4.7 version has the other header. I will try and figure out what changed and create a new release. -Bill ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 17+ messages in thread

CMake 2.4.7-1 was the first release of cmake done with cpack for cygwin. It was not generating gnu style tar files. I have changed that, so it should work with setup now. I've also updated setup to accept the tar magic of just "ustar\0", so those cpack tar files should now work (I tested with the cmake package and it extracted OK.) And if it happens again the user should get a dialog about invalid tar format instead of it silently just doing nothing. Of course this won't take effect until the next setup release (unless you use a snapshot) so bumping the cmake packages is still a good idea.
