Thanks for the thanks.

Your message brightened my bad day at the end of a bad week.

And, sadly enough, I really am a responsible adult. When did that happen?

Here's my theory. Chris was making a snarky comment about the
original poster's s/GMT/UT/ comment. But Corrina interpreted this as
a comment about *her* s/UT/UTC/ comment, and responded to Chris in the
same spirit. They usually (always?) treat each other with respect
(and in fact Corrina is polite to list members in general, which is
appreciated.)

Actually, not to be technical in cygwin-talk but the last problem I
found with the pipe code is, so-far, a show-stopper. This is, I think,
the first time I've seen a Windows function somewhat succeed but still
return an error code. I don't know how to deal with that yet.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'll share how Chris's "style"
affects me.

I don't want to be the target of his (or anyone else's) ire.
Therefore, before hitting send, I carefully and critically review
my email to make sure that it is polite, respectful, unpresumptuous,
and thankful. That is something that everyone should do anyway, but
Chris adds an incentive.

Think about it. Every request is wrapped around a complaint.
"Please pass the water." ("Why are you keeping the water over
there where I can't @#$%^ get it!") So when people make an
effort to avoid triggering a reaction from Chris, the overall
tone of the list improves. And when they don't, they shouldn't
complain about something that could have easily been avoided.

(However, I admit that appreciation of Chris's style is an acquired
taste.)

>Corrina is polite to list members in general, which is
>appreciated.)

Look at it this way. Averaging Corinna's constant politeness with
Chris's curmudgeonliness yields a pleasant ambiance.

And if reading some snarky retorts is the price one pays for getting
free help with a great product (also free), we still are getting a
bargain. If one wants support provided by Corinna and not Chris, I
suspect that arrangements can be made with Red Hat. :-)

I think many people think you're probably Whoopi Goldberg
<http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109484/>, incognito.

She's a well-known hacker <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091306/> so it's
a logical mistake.

Out of curiousity, is Whoopi Goldberg even known in Germany? I know that
"Jumpin' Jack Flash" was a box office blockbuster but I don't know if it
made it to Germany.

Almost all Hollywood movies make it to Europe and if they were
blockbusters in the US, they are very likely blockbusters here, too.

I apologize.

I know that this will be hard for you to believe, but I actually
checked the spelling. Sigh. I'd like to blame it on something that
Outlook did, but it was probably operator error.

You don't have to. You did it right.

Actually, nobody has to apologize for writing a nmae wrong, I'm
just puzzled that so many people mistype my name in the same way.
But Chris' explanation makes a lot of sense.
