XWin used the whole screen instead (Alexander Gottwald) - the font-update script will generate encodings.dir in the font dirs - since xorg-x11-6.8.0.0 font-update is run in the postinstall script to update the list of installed fonts you can add extra directories to scan to /etc/X11/font-dirs and extra encodings to /etc/X11/font-encodings. Add one entry per line. Everything after the hash sign (#) is ignored.
