With the excellent detail in your email I was able to build a Centos 7 VM which reproduces the problem, which was due to the RANDR changes in 1.17.1-1 not being quite correct. I've had a go at fixing this and uploaded a snapshot [1]. Perhaps you could try that and see if it improves things for you?
