The old trick is to spark up xfontsel, which can help you narrow down to the font you want. Then push the "select" button, which copies the (oft-mistyped) font spec onto the clipboard. Next, in an xterm, type "xterm -fn '", dump the clipboard, close the single quote and hit return to verify that the font is usable. If that works, then you get to double check your .XDefaults grammar. HTH, Mike P.S.
