Use of the CYGROOT environment variable is both flexible and simple to use. What if $CYGROOT/etc/mnttab does not exist? cygwin*.dll should mount / based on $CYGROOT, perhaps it does this already? Perhaps the default for CYGROOT should be the installation directory?
