Hi,
Setup tells me "Nothing needed to be installed", but nearly all created
directories are empty.
I realise this has been addressed before but I could find no solution in
either FAQ or mail archive.
So any help much appreciated.
Anyway here is what setup.exe puts in c:\cygwin:

Clicked on next.
4. Got create desktop shortcut screenn - cant remember my response
5. Got 'Nothing needed to be installed message'
NOTES:
1. I manually extracted cygcheck to my desktop. Running it
('cygcheck -s -v -r' ) from MS-DOS gave no output only a popup box with the
message "A required .DLL file, CYGWIN1.DLL, was not found."
2. no key "Cygnus" etc. generated in the registry
3. Start menu, desktop shortcuts successfully created.
4. selecting "bash" from the program menue shows a dos box which closes
immediately
5. -installed.db shows
-no "error" message or unexpected quit of setup, it just has a whole lot
of lines like

To: Michael Roper, cygwin
/etc/setup/installed.db is setup's list of what has been done. Remove any
or all entries from that file, and setup will repeat the corresponding untar
steps. Convenient in case of foul-ups.

Thanks.
Deleted all entries as suggested. Re-tried setup. Same problems though.

Michael,
Two things - have you downloaded the latest Setup (just in case) and can
you give us some additional detail. Which options did you select:
Download, install from internet, or install from local directory. Also
what did you enter for the root directory and what did you enter for the
source directory. Any other information regarding your attempted install
might also be helpful.

Hi,
Thanks to patient assistance from DJ Delorie I can happily report that
the only problem was that I had download setup.ini into my local temp
directory from which I was doing the install. This shouldnt have been there
(it expected same directory structure as on ftp site)
Hope is of help to some one,
Michael
