Hi all,
I'm trying to use a fetchmail/procmail/rxvt/mutt/vim solution
to read my messages. I have two problems :
1. fetchmail seems to corrupt my boxes. I've found lot of
messages in the archive about a bug in W2K but it was for an old
version of fetchmail.
does someone knows if fetchmail-5.9.11 is still bugged ?

I just tested it and it seems to be ok.
I have two versions compiled, one with ssl support (requires Cygwin
openssl installed) and one without ssl support.
I'm still compiling but in a few seconds it should be online:

If you are referring to my posts, then fetchmail-5.9.11 will have the
same issue. Unfortunately, this cannot be fixed (i.e., worked around
in Cygwin). I have been meaning to submit a patch to fetchmail to
workaround this problem but I haven't found the time yet. Sigh...

I cannot confirm that fetchmail is guilty.
I use fetchmail to retrieve all my mails and feed them to our SMTP
server. Then I fetch them from the local POP3 server with my windows
client. No mails with attachments are corrupted!
So just fetching with fetchmail seems to work ( works for me(tm) )
It seems that another program in the toolchain is
causing that damage. Mutt? Procmail?
Maybe it is a problem with piping to procmail?
Should we debug it again?

It's certainly possible that mutt is the guilty party, as it's rather
aggregiously Unix-text-files-only-please oriented. Do things work if you
configure mutt to go directly to your POP3 server? Or if you change the inbox
format to maildir?
I'm a changelog away from updating mutt to 1.3.28; I could send you the new .exe
if you'd like to try it and see if it makes any difference (and I'd appreciate
the additional testing). Let me know.

no , it's not ! i've already posted that *fetchmail* has a *known bug*
when dealing with the W2K winsock.

works fine ... but i don't know if it is possible to use procmail
with the mutt POP support.

not tried. why do you want to do that ?

Is it really just a problem with W2K?
I had these problems too before I upgraded to W2K on NT4.
Now my fetchmail runs on our server (NT4), no problems here.
One simple test succeeds (Sending with Mutt through the sendmail
emulator of my mail server and fetched with Fetchmail).
Second try sending with Mutt through ssmtp and fetched with Fetchmail
was also successful.
I'm running fetchmail as service (latest release version) on Cygwin
1.3.10 on a NT4 SP6a box. Compiled on the same box.

IMO, yes.

Huh? Do you mean that you "upgraded" from W2K to NT4 or from NT4 to W2k?
> Now my fetchmail runs on our server (NT4), no problems here.
I have never seen this problem under NT4:
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2001-08/msg00317.html
The problem is definitely in (or at least trigger by) the fetchmail
code:
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2001-08/msg00628.html
I have observed this problem on different W2K machines (one SP1, one SP2)
connecting to different mail servers (one POP3, one IMAP). procmail,
mutt, piping, etc. has nothing to due with this issue.
Shame on me for sitting on this patch for so long...

peraps i've misunderstood while reading the archive :
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2002-03/msg00053.html
(and follow-ups)

Wow, you have patched it already;)
Do you want contribute fetchmail to the Cygwin Dist or should I
include your patch and rebuild then? I'm building it now and
put it up to the server so people can test it.

Yeah, but I should have submitted the patch upstream by now...

My intention was to contribute fetchmail and procmail (or maildrop)
after my patches have been accepted by the respective maintainers.

However, you can have the "honors," if you prefer.
