No, currently I'm not running any anti-virus software.

Thanks, Chris. I was starting to consider trying to track it down, but with my
limited resources (read: time) and total unfamiliarity with the code, it would
have taken a while. I'm also fairly unfamiliar with debugging Windows DLLs,
although I assume it must be somewhat similar to debugging shared libraries on
Unix.

Frankly, I'm glad someone had an idea about this problem. As I have time, I
hope to start playing around with the DLL code, building the DLL, etc., so I
won't feel so helpless the next time something goes wrong (assuming it does
;-).

Thanks again,

Rick

No, I'm not running defrag software. This was a clean install win Win2k, and I
haven't installed too many apps, yet.

This problems seems to be very specific to bash in that before I start bash,
the CPU is essentially at 0%. Then, I start bash and the usage goes to 100% and
stays there until I kill bash via the task manager. The CPU immediately goes
back to 0%.

Thanks for the suggestion, though,

Rick

Do you use any disk defragmentation software like Diskeeper for NT?

Six months ago, I installed Executive Software Diskeeper 4.1 on my NT 4.0.
I noticed the performace of my CPU was reduced by almost 50% and Task
manager was showing a constant
100% CPU and memory usage. Cygwin compilations were painfully slow. I
removed the Diskeeper and my NT started behaving.

Do you use any antivirus software. I've found this problem when Antivirus is
checking all outbound files.

With the recent snapshots (i.e., those I've tried since about 01/08), I've
noticed that when I start bash in a cmd.exe window, my CPU usage goes to 100%.
With the *very* recent snapshots (02/11, 02/21), I don't even get a prompt. The
window appears with the cursor flashing in the upper left corner, but no
prompt.

I'm running Windows 2000 on a 400MHz PII, 128MB RAM, 10G HD.

I've seen at least one other similar post, but no replies. Is this a common
problem, or should I be looking at my configuration?

Thanks,

Rick
