You didn't seem to run tcsh to the point where it manifested the problem.
tcsh does do a lot of closes. I don't know why it does that but it
appears to be normal operation.

This strace log is essentially showing tcsh starting up. It doesn't show
anything about running a program and seeing a hang.

You are right, but with "strace tcsh" I don't get the tcsh prompt
within a few minutes which seems to be a rather long startup time
for me... When I killed the process tcsh was trying to close a
handle with a four digits number!

tcsh does seem to go crazy closing file handles at the beginning
but it does stop eventually.

If it didn't you'd never get a prompt.

Well, it stopped after 10 minutes or so after closing handle 8000+.
The strange thing now is that I could run all commands after this.
BTW, everything also works if I run tcsh under gdb.

Sorry for the delay, but I don't have access to the net during weekend
(and no access to my Win95 PC right now), so I'll send the output to
you tomorrow.
Meanwhile I played a little bit with tcsh 6.09.00. What I found is that
if I run it under gdb everything works fine, but if I start tcsh from
the Win95 command prompt directly it behaves the way I wrote above.

No problem here. I can't reproduce the problem since 20000227
snapshot.

    strace -osomefile tcsh
    tcsh
    mount

In another window:

    ps
    (find pid of tcsh)
    kill -9 thetcshpid

Send somefile to cgf@cygnus.com.

Get a newer snapshot. The problem may have been fixed already.

Some weeks ago I reported that Corinna Vinschen's tcsh 6.08 port does
not work under Win95 and the January 2000 snapshots (it exits
immediately because for some strange reason tcsh writes to stdin and
says good-bye).

With the February 27 snapshot the behavior changed. Now tcsh starts,
but whenever I run a (non built-in) command such as ls, mount, etc.
it hangs after completion of the command. I also compiled tcsh 6.09
and got the same result.

Any ideas ?
