True, I'm sure that DJ could incorporate patches if necessary. Checking out
the current sources and inspecting them would be a good start on providing
improvements even with DJ's overhaul.

I've already done this in my version-in-progress.

Except in this case because DJ is overhauling setup and has, as I understand
it, requested that everyone hold off on patching setup.

My standard reply to this is:

Good ideas are cheap, contributions are gold.

If you have a good idea try making the change yourself and submitting
a patch. That is the best way to make your good idea a reality.

Would it be possible to add some progress info on downloading ?

Some files are very big and if connection is bad it ca take quite long to
download it !
A simple XX% at the end of
downloading xxx;tar.gz
would be enough to let people know that the setup program is really working
and
that the connection is not dead.

A second suggestion, but that might be much more work would be an
option that would create a listing of all available packages
with the status of the currently locally available.

This would for instance inform you that there is a newer bash version
if you type "setup -l" (or any other option if this onee is already used.

Other than that I find this program really good,
its so simple to upgrade a package.

 Thanks for CygWin.
