Well..... Chuck, right here: http://cygwin-rpm.sourceforge.net/

If anyone has any actual help to provide besides message board ethics, I'd be most thankful. I'm running cygwin on top of win98 by the way.

So, you are installing a perl rpm. Who provided it? Neither perl nor
rpm are part of the default cygwin install. You really should seek help
first from whomever provided the packages you are using. No one on this
list knows what funky things some random packager 'out there on the net'
did, in order to provide a perl rpm.

Presumably you got the perl rpm from either < http://cygwin-rpm.sourceforge.net/ >
or < http://cygwin.cjb.net/ >. At the bottom of each of those pages is a 'mailto'
link for contacting the maintainer <rebum@cygwin.cjb.net> of those rpm packages.
The maintainer would seem to be the best qualified source of expertise on those
packages.

Did you try the instructions for just expanding the rpm using the rpm browser?

Alternatively, there is an easy-to-install version of Perl-5.6.0 at
       ftp://ftp.franken.de/pub/win32/develop/gnuwin32/cygwin/
[in] porters/Wilson_Charles_S/V1.1/perl-5.6.0

Perhaps you could try that. I think that's what most Cygwin users install.

Regards,
Doug Wyatt

Well, in this case the "message board ethics" are the correct response.
Going to the source for help makes a lot of sense. The cygwin mailing
list has nothing to do with these packages. They are apparently
maintained by rebum@cygwin.cjb.net .

I imagine that he has a lot more of a clue as to what they do and what
problems there are than random people on this mailing list.

I'll ditto Chuck. The quoted site has nothing to do with the product Cygwin
other than some packager providing it. No one on this list except the packager
(who may not even be on this list) knows anything about the package. The
appropriate place to ask is at one of the forums of cygwin-rpm.sourceforge.net.

Cheers,
Earnie.
