FWIW, I'm seeing the same symptoms with tab-completion as Mr. Moser, both on
my work machine (Why2K) and at home ("Me"). Work cygcheck below, also
.inputrc per Earnie Boyd's comment.

================ .inputrc:

# GRVS's amazing .inputrc file

# Home
"\e[7~": beginning-of-line
# End
"\e[8~": end-of-line
# Delete
"\e[3~": delete-char
set completion-ignore-case

set beep-style audible

I also found this problem when I upgraded to bash-2.05-3, so trying to be a
good cygwiner, downloaded the sources to see what was going on. I rebuilt
bash without modification, installed it and the problem disappeared! Any
clues?

FWIW, I'm seeing the same symptoms with tab-completion as Mr. Moser, both on
my work machine (Why2K) and at home ("Me"). Work cygcheck below, also
.inputrc per Earnie Boyd's comment.

downloaded bash-2.05-4-src.tar.gz, compiled,

What is going on here that extracting bash-2.05-4.tar.gz
behaves different than making bash-2.05-4-src.tar.gz?

Hmm... Versions of preinstalled readline.dll? Just a guess based on
the fact that readline is where the tab completion code exists.

Earnie.

But that doesn't explain why it works on my box. I have just
checked that I'm using the latest readline available (4.1-2)
and I'm using exactly the binary which I have uploaded to
sourceware.

But does Frank-Michael have the latest readline available? Perhaps he
chose to only update bash and not readline. Does the new bash
executable work with an older readline.dll?

Earnie.

I'm rather sure that I installed latest releases using setup.exe.
rlversion gives 4.1. When I extract Corinna's bash-2.05-4.tar.gz
the problem comes up again. I go into my /install/src/bash-2.05
and after "make inatall" problem is gone again.

Corinna's bash.exe has 473.600 bytes.
Self made bash.exe has 1.740.898 bytes?!

Frank-Michael.

Neophyte Guess: Did you run: strip bash.exe?

bash-2.05-4)

I'm rather sure that I installed latest releases using setup.exe.
rlversion gives 4.1. When I extract Corinna's bash-2.05-4.tar.gz the
problem comes up again. I go into my /install/src/bash-2.05 and after
"make inatall" problem is gone again.

Corinna's bash.exe has 473.600 bytes.
Self made bash.exe has 1.740.898 bytes?!

What happens if you `strip' your self made bash.exe?

Earnie.

Stripped bash.exe works well.
Corinna's original bash.exe for comparison:

FWIW, Corinna's bash-2.05-4 bash.exe does not depend on readline.dll
(verified by cygcheck). There are two possibilities: it either linked
statically with the system libreadline.a (from readline-4.1-2), or
linked statically with the assimilated readline code inside the bash
source dist. Corinna?

Chet Ramey maintains both the official GNU bash sources and the official
GNU readline sources. I know he has incorporated a few bugfixes in the
readline code over the last few months, and that he updated bash-2.04 to
2.05 recently (Apr 9). Corinna quickly followed with the cygwin port of
the new bash. (containing updated readline code...)

The separate GNU readline package has ALSO been updated from 4.1 to 4.2
(Apr 16). However, I haven't had a chance to update the cygwin-readline
dist.

Therefore, it is possible that the readline code inside the current GNU
bash source distribution, and *perhaps* used by the cygwin binary build
of bash, is different from the readline code in the cygwin-readline
dist.

I suspect that Chet fixed something in readline, but that Corinna linked
statically against "my" cygwin readline lib.

I just doublechecked that my bash is linked against the statical
libreadline.a which is part of the bash sources, FWIW.
