It turns out that one of my mount points was set as textmode (which
the mutt Cygwin documentation warns against). That was the source
of the problem. My fault. At least the mailing list archive now
contains an example of what happens if you use mutt under textmode.

FWIW, mutt on Cygwin would be worth using even if I couldn't use the
mailboxes (but Windows wouldn't be worth using if I couldn't use
Cygwin)...

While using mutt 1.2.5i (2000-07-28) I've noticed mailbox
corruption after performing delete commands. I thought it might
be Cygwin related since I was unable to find it mentioned on the
mutt mailing list and because textfiles are involved.

After I delete a message, the mailbox file ends up re-written with
partial 'From' lines at the start of many, but not all, of the
messages. I think this alters mutt's recalculation of
'Content-Length:' on that message by including the partial 'From'
line. The error cascades on the rest of the messages in the
mailbox.

Same problem occurs regardless of Unix or DOS formatted mailboxes.
My mounts are binmode. Here's my uname -a output:
CYGWIN_NT-5.0 THEBOX 1.3.2(0.39/3/2) 2001-05-20 23:28 i686 unknown

Sample mailbox:

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
