Hi,

a small suggestion for http://cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-net/cygwin-ug-net.html
Just stumbled on this while I had to look up something I'd forgotten
meanwhile.

Wouldn't it make sense to include the article about the CYGWIN environment
variable under 'Setting up Cygwin->Environment Variables' as well?
A nice side-effect would be to point the user to this essential variable at
an earlier stage instead of placing it between 'Special Filenames' and
'Cygwin Utilities'.

Just tell me what you think about it.
Thanks.

Andreas

I don't think that the section should be duplicated but I do think that
the setup part should have a link to the detailed CYGWIN description.

I'd appreciate it if you could provide a patch to do this, in fact.

Neither do I. :-)
I meant that it should be _moved_ from deep down below to the place I
mentioned where it catches the user's eye a little bit better.

Hmm. In English the term "as well" as you used it is a synonym for "in
addtion" or "also". When you said that the article about the CYGWIN
environment variable would be nice under 'Setting up Cygwin->Environment
Variables' as well, I understood this to mean that you wanted the
description in two places.

That's why I suggested that you provide a patch to add a link to the
descriptive location in the setup description.

Ummm ... sorry for not being clear.
Yes, of course I meant moving instead of copying. :-)

Grrr ... Re-read the stuff, now I finally know what you're trying to tell
me.

Should mean "wouldn't it make sense to include the article about the CYGWIN
env. var. at the same place as the _other_ env's?" I used the "as well" to
express "as well as the others, that are also at this place".

Whooo ... WHO HAS EVER CLAIMED ENGLISH TO BE EASY? ;-)
(Ostracize him ;-) <grin>)

No problem. :-)
OK, I attached a draft where you can see what I had in mind.
(_moved_, not _copied_, as you said, "you don't want it duplicate". It is
not duplicate now. :-)).

Andreas

P.S. Actually it would be better to have the SGML (or sorta) source handy
here, because editing the HTML reveals that it's generated by some
conversion tool (sgml to html or similar). Besides, I don't think the
maintainers like too see me hack around here like this, but what the
heck...:)

Um, yeah. Any patches you send will have to be against the html source.

You can get the doc sources from the same places as the source code either
via CVS or snapshot.

Thanks for the info.
Just a last question: did you check my attached HTML draft and is it ok at
this new place?

Sorry. I looked at the file but not sure exactly what you've changed.
If you can send me a patch to the sgml sources, I'll take a look at it.
