Problem in tcsh

Hi,

I am using cygwin tcsh 6.12.00-5. But I am having the following
problem:

Suppose I have included /cygdrive/d/Perl/bin and there is a
exe "Perl.exe" in d:/Perl/bin directory.

If press Pe + tab at command prompt it shows "Perl" among a
list of other executables begining with Pe.
But when I enter "Perl" at command prompt. It gives "Command
not found".

Strangely if I enter "perl" at command prompt, it works. I don't
have any other perl in any of the directories in the path.

Is it a known problem?

The check_case option might be of help to you (the default is "relaxed" - 
perhaps you should try 'CYGWIN="check_case=ajust"')

I don't know how that interacts with tcsh, though..

BTW: there is a perl in the Cygwin distri - it's in /usr/bin/perl. You 
could check whether that's the one you're running (`type perl')

Not yet.  What does `which Perl' tell you?  (The built-in which,
not /bin/which).

I changed user and group membership as well as file permissions to comply
with your settings.  I'm sorry but I can't reproduce your problem.

Soumitra,

No one seems to have asked you about your readline options. I know next 
to nothing about tcsh, but BASH uses ~/.inputrc in which you can make 
completion ignore alphabetic case by using this directive:

set completion-ignore-case on

Does tcsh use ~/.inputrc or an equivalent? Does it support this option?


OK. ... Doing my homework. ...

According to the tcsh man page, the "complete" shell variable controls 
command completion options. If it's set to "enhance", then alphabetic 
case is ignored. There are other options, of course. E.g., 
"recognize_only_executables" could be relevant here and can be expected 
to interact with other Cygwin mechanisms such as "ntsec," actual file 
modes and owners, etc.

Check out the "The command-line editor" and "Completion and listing" 
sections of the tcsh manual.

It seems so but I can't reproduce it.  I need more details:

Output of
- id
- ls -l /cygdrive/d/Perl/bin/Perl.exe
- getfacl /cygdrive/d/Perl/bin/Perl.exe

and the trace file of
- strace -o trace.out tcsh -c 'which Perl'

Built-in which gives:
Perl: Command not found.

But "/bin/which" gives:
/cygdrive/d/Perl/bin/Perl

So it seems that it is a problem with tcsh.
