* Suggestion... date format (ISO8601:2000)

I've found the following necessary. Opinions welcome IMO.

$ date +"%F %H:%M UTC%z"
2003-09-17 19:43 UTC+0200

May I suggest that this format - or something similar gets used for date and
time on the webpage and elsewhere, as the maintainer might find apropriate.

At least considering, not necessarily addopting fully, the information at
 http://www.iso.ch/iso/en/prods-services/popstds/datesandtime.html
would be nice. e.g.

"On the Internet, all kinds of notations are used, some language-dependent,
and are they all correctly understood on the other side of the globe? Not so
sure."

"The new format has already been adopted by many organizations worldwide.
And many more should do so – to make their own lives simpler. And everybody
else's. Why don't you?"

More of the same can be found at
 http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/iso-time.html
which is old - but correct as it seems.

I think the date formats currently used are unambiguous. You're visiting a
web site that is maintained by and for English speakers. If you can't
figure out what "Sep" means then presumably you have vast problems with
the rest of the site.

Or maybe I should really say, PTC.

You missed the point here; i see the site as maintaned for _international_
people.

You're in the 'States, several people in Germany, some in France, me and a
couple of others in Sweden, some in Japan(?) - at least they write
Japanese/Chinese characters from time to time...

Point: As we're spread out all over the world, why not tell the time and
date in a manner that has been standardized - and that of an organization
that has the mandate, for the entire world.

What I, personally, miss mostly is the timezone information. I'm not
"fluent" at keeping timezone names in my head. So _my_ major concern is
having the "UTC+0200" visible... which means I'll be able to _immediately_
tell when I can expect things to happen, e.g. on the snapshots page.

> Or maybe I should really say, PTC.

I should have expected that. ;-) - I suspect this isn't that easy, e.g. the
snapshots page is not static, is it?

Now, it's past midnight here, I'll have to lay this off for tonight...

Rigth ;-) I claim the right to disagree ;-)

Do you mind giving me some more words on _why_ you don't like the idea?

WRT "PTC", do you mind pointing me to the relevant sources, so I can have a
look? CVS I presume, I'm all new to that...

The effort of doing this plus the effort of discussing it are not how
I want to prioritize my time.

It's probably something like:

cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cygwin.com:/cvs/cygwin login
<enter>

cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cygwin.com:/cvs/cygwin co htdocs

but, I'm *really* not interested in providing cvs beginner help, so I'm bowing
out now. Someone else can answer your cvs questions.

Chris,

I believe Hannu was asking "which repository contains the scripts to
generate the snapshots page, the mirrors page, etc?". They are not,
AFAICS, in the htdocs repository (cgi-bin2/ only contains the
package-{list,grep} scripts).

snapshot generation code is missing. The other stuff should be there.

This was exactly what I was after (htdocs), as I couldn't find it on
cygwin.com.

I'm looking forward to read a lot - when I can find the time. I've been
doing that for the last decade or two. This is the way I've learnt about
programming, computers, electronics and many other things - stuff that I'm
better than average on.

I've taken note... Thank's Igor for trying to help.

We'll yet have to see how long it will take for me to read up on CVS, PHP,
SGML, XML and other stuff that might pop up in the process. These are all
new stuff for me, but I'm not afraid of that. Time will show ;-)

Out of curiosity, is there somebody activelly(?) maintaining this? Am I
stepping on toes? ;-P

NOTE: I'm not volenteering in any case, I expect to have a lot to read as I
said - and time isn't in abundance.
Just reading this list - to get to know about everything - takes a lot of
time.
