That is pretty funny.  You might be surprised how often
I have heard this question.  But asking someone else
entirely is a twist I haven't encountered.

p.s. FWIW I am in the process of releasing my Perl slides
online, and the book will be released as PS/PDF in its 
entirety online in the not unimaginably distant future.

Yep, you caught me with that one too.  While there is no gettext-autopoint
package for Cygwin, it's not necessary either.  Please, no one offer to 
maintain it for Cygwin. ;-)  I should've checked the setup package
page (<http://cygwin.com/packages/>) for autopoint too before answering.
Hope no one suffered (or will suffer) a brain hemorrhage as a result of 
my partial answer.
