Hello,
1) When I use xmlto to convert a docbook xml file to
html-nochunks, I get the following error:

basename: too many arguments
Try `basename --help' for more information.

2) Further, if I use the plain 'html' option, no files
are created. It fails with the error:

cp: cannot stat `*.htm*': No such file or directory

3) I am unable to run xmlto from any other directory
other than ~.

I am using the latest version of cygwin. Any help is
appreciated.

Thank you.

I have searched Google (web and newsgroups) and this
mailing list too. Here is my detailed cygwin info.

 Cygwin DLL version info:
     DLL version: 1.5.5
     DLL epoch: 19
     DLL bad signal mask: 19005
     DLL old termios: 5
     DLL malloc env: 28
     API major: 0
     API minor: 94
     Shared data: 3
     DLL identifier: cygwin1
     Mount registry: 2
     Cygnus registry name: Cygnus Solutions
     Cygwin registry name: Cygwin
     Program options name: Program Options
Cygwin mount registry name: mounts v2
     Cygdrive flags: cygdrive flags
     Cygdrive prefix: cygdrive prefix
     Cygdrive default prefix:
Build date: Sat Sep 20 16:31:15 EDT 2003
     CVS tag: cr-0x9b

Test command:

$ xmlto -o xml html-nochunks xmlto.xml

The file xmlto.xml is the one distributed with xmlto
(uses docbook 4.2).

Thanks.

OK but what about the output of cygcheck -s -r -v (*attached*, not
included/inlined)?

OK, from what you've provided, I don't see anything wrong with the
installation and I cannot reproduce your problems (though I'm a
complete newbie with xmlto so I can't claim that means anything).
Looking at the script, it appears to me that there is some
possibility that spaces in $PWD has the potential to foul up the
second usage of basename, accounting for the first complaint you
mentioned. Perhaps you want to add 'set -x' to the start of the
of 'xmlto' and see what it tells you.

I'm sure someone else more familiar with xmlto can help out
better than I, if you don't find your own answer first.

For the basename problems, it seems that

Thanks.

I have traced this to the last line of xmlto:

${BASH} "$FORMAT" post-process || exit 1

here the new bash process started does not inherit the
directory. If the line is changed to

source "$FORMAT" post-process || exit 1

it works without error. Is there any way to make bash
behave sanely? According to the documentation,
inheriting directories is the default. I have also
tried the --norc option, with no result.

This seems to be due to the way options are parsed by
the script--any directory without a leading / is taken
to be a system directory.

Thanks.

You should update your cygwin installation to latest released xmlto
version (0.0.18-1).

Thanks! I have upgraded to xmlto-0.0.18-1, and all the
problems except the basename one have been solved.
The basename issue appears when using the
"html-nochunks" option (see attached patch).
