I've tried many things to get this to work correctly, and I just don't
seem to be able to get it working right... Here's my best effort:

rm: remove write-protected file `/var/log/fetchmail.log'? y
[12:54:04][cbenson@Prog09:~]> cygrunsrv -R fetchmail
[12:54:09][cbenson@Prog09:~]> cygrunsrv --install fetchmail --path /usr/bin/fet chmail --args "--nodetach --invisible -ucbenson -f /cygdrive/h/.fetchmailrc" -- disp FetchMail --desc "FetchMail remote mail retrieval and fowarding service un der CygWin" --env "HOME=/cygdrive/h FETCHMAILUSER=cbenson FETCHMAILHOME=/cygdri ve/h" --shutdown

We really need all the information requested by:

Seems very odd that '/var/log/fetchmail.log' exists after the failed
attempt to start fetchmail as a service. Are you sure it was deleted
to start with? Also, if '/cygdrive/h' is a password protected share
(which cygcheck output would tell me), fetchmail won't be able to access
it.

Why do you say that? Fetchmail is exiting immediately with the "no
mailservers" error message, and that's getting logged to
/var/log/fetchmail.log...

I suppose. But then the service should have said it started. Anyway,
I don't think it's a big deal. Just odd.

Definitely. And you're cygcheck output shows that '/cygdrive/h' is a
network share. If it requires a password to access it, then you won't
be able to use it for fetchmail. This will keep it from starting as a
service. Also, don't remount /, /usr/bin, and /usr/lib as text mounts.
You won't be doing yourself any favors with that.

Well, I remounted those because that's what cron_diagnose.sh said to
do... So is there no way I can use the network share for fetchmail?

Actually, I think you'll find it complained that those mounts weren't
mounted as "system". I've noticed it complain about that even when
they are.

Sure. Add "Everyone" to the list of users in the "Security" tab for the
file properties in the Explorer. But that gives everyone and anyone
access to your directory.

/cygdrive/h looks like a shared drive. If it requires authentication, it
won't be accessible from a passwordless token created by the service, so
the file is *not* readable, even if it has a world read permission.
