Hi, upon seeing
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2006-02/msg00090.html
I downloaded the latest complete stable cygwin, after changing the
tcl version to the updated version. I then downloaded the latest
snapshot of cygwin1.dll and installed that (http://cygwin.com/
snapshots/cygwin1-20060319.dll.bz2).
The problem has not been fixed...did I not get the installation correct?
export F=1
>tclsh
puts [ exec sh -c "echo $F" ]
can't read "F": no such variable
Thanks.

You might want to think about how $F is evaluated above. It isn't evaulated
by 'sh'. It's evaluated by tclsh.
puts [ exec sh -c "echo \$F" ]
will work better.

Thanks Christopher, sorry about that. You're right, it does pass on
the environment now.
Does anyone have Tix built under this latest version? Sadly our TCL/
TK code still uses Tix - when compiling 8.4.0 I get:
tclPort.h : No such file or directory
Thanks, Steve.

I've made a new version of tcltk available for downloading. This
version is a refresh from sourceware.org.
This package contains an updated tclsh which will properly fill out the
environment when starting a subprocess -- when used in conjunction with
the latest cygwin snapshots. Without the use of a cygwin snapshot DLL,
tclsh will behave as described here:
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2006-02/msg00055.html
Since improved behavior only happens with cygwin snapshots, means that
thist package must be labelled as experimental. If no problems are
reported, this package will be marked as current when cygwin 1.5.20 is
released. To download a cygwin DLL snapshot, check out the cygwin web
page for links to the snapshot page and, if necessary, check out the
cygwin FAQ for help installing a snapshot.
To update your tcltk installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now"
link on the http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to
your system. Use setup.exe to update your installation.
If you have questions or comments, please send them to the Cygwin
mailing list. See http://cygwin.com/lists.html for details.
