* ssh and sftp connects intermittently [not found] <1251918865.25462.ezmlm@cygwin.com> @ 2009-09-02 19:29 ` jeffunit 2009-09-02 19:42 ` Larry Hall (Cygwin) 0 siblings, 1 reply; 8+ messages in thread From: jeffunit @ 2009-09-02 19:29 UTC (permalink / raw) To: cygwin [-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 595 bytes --] I use ssh from a dos box on windows to connect to other machines, It works fine right after I log into windows. After a while, it doesn't work reliably. I type something like 'sftp example.com I get a response 'Connecting to example.com...' About 1 time in 10, I get the next line which is 'Password:' This problem has been going on for at least a year, and is not specific to a specific release of cygwin. The site 'example.com' is pingable, and all other internet access works reliably. I would like to help debug this problem in any way I can, to help resolve it. Any ideas? thanks, jeff [-- Attachment #2: cygcheck.out --] [-- Type: text/plain, Size: 14220 bytes --] Cygwin Configuration Diagnostics Current System Time: Wed Sep 02 12:10:11 2009 Windows XP Professional Ver 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3 Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32 C:\WINDOWS C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static c:\cygwin\bin c:\cygwin\usr\local\bin u:\j\bin C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0 C:\PROGRA~1\DISKEE~1\DISKEE~1\ Output from C:\cygwin\bin\id.exe (nontsec) UID: 1003(jdeifik) GID: 513(None) 0(root) 513(None) 544(Administrators) 545(Users) Output from C:\cygwin\bin\id.exe (ntsec) UID: 1003(jdeifik) GID: 513(None) 0(root) 513(None) 544(Administrators) 545(Users) SysDir: C:\WINDOWS\system32 WinDir: C:\WINDOWS HOME = 'u:\j' Path = 'C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static;c:\cygwin\bin;c:\cygwin\usr\local\bin;u:\j\bin;C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0;C:\PROGRA~1\DISKEE~1\DISKEE~1\' ALLUSERSPROFILE = 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users' APPDATA = 'U:\Documents and Settings\jdeifik\Application Data' CLIENTNAME = 'Console' CommonProgramFiles = 'C:\Program Files\Common Files' COMPUTERNAME = 'PHENOMII' ComSpec = 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe' CVSROOT = 'u:\cvsroot' FP_NO_HOST_CHECK = 'NO' HOMEDRIVE = 'U:' HOMEPATH = '\Documents and Settings\jdeifik' Isuser = 'U:\Documents and Settings\jdeifik\LOCALS~1\Temp\{93D52C87-BDD8-4B78-BCD2-09D5FC34E8DA}\{BCE9F441-9027-4911-82E0-5FB28057897D}\_isuser.dll' LOGONSERVER = '\\PHENOMII' NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS = '4' OS = 'Windows_NT' PATHEXT = '.COM;.EXE;.BAT;.CMD;.VBS;.VBE;.JS;.JSE;.WSF;.WSH;.PSC1' PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE = 'x86' PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER = 'x86 Family 16 Model 4 Stepping 2, AuthenticAMD' PROCESSOR_LEVEL = '16' PROCESSOR_REVISION = '0402' ProgramFiles = 'C:\Program Files' PROMPT = '$P$G' SamDir = 'SINSTDIR' SESSIONNAME = 'Console' SystemDrive = 'C:' SystemRoot = 'C:\WINDOWS' TEMP = 'U:\DOCUME~1\jdeifik\LOCALS~1\Temp' TMP = 'U:\DOCUME~1\jdeifik\LOCALS~1\Temp' USERDOMAIN = 'PHENOMII' USERNAME = 'jdeifik' USERPROFILE = 'U:\Documents and Settings\jdeifik' windir = 'C:\WINDOWS' HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cygnus Solutions HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\Program Options HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2 (default) = '/cygdrive' cygdrive flags = 0x00000022 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2\/ (default) = 'C:\cygwin' flags = 0x0000000a HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2\/usr/bin (default) = 'C:\cygwin/bin' flags = 0x0000000a HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2\/usr/lib (default) = 'C:\cygwin/lib' flags = 0x0000000a HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\Program Options a: fd N/A N/A c: hd NTFS 24003Mb 53% CP CS UN PA FC OCZ_Xp d: cd N/A N/A k: hd NTFS 883865Mb 68% CP CS UN PA FC Hit_1_av m: hd NTFS 1430797Mb 70% CP CS UN PA FC Sea_1.5_tv p: cd N/A N/A u: hd NTFS 70001Mb 55% CP CS UN PA FC Hit_1_User w: fd N/A N/A x: fd N/A N/A y: fd N/A N/A z: fd N/A N/A C:\cygwin / system binmode C:\cygwin/bin /usr/bin system binmode C:\cygwin/lib /usr/lib system binmode . /cygdrive system binmode, cygdrive Found: c:\cygwin\bin\awk.exe Found: c:\cygwin\bin\bash.exe Found: c:\cygwin\bin\cat.exe Found: c:\cygwin\bin\cp.exe Not Found: cpp (good!) OK, as you might expect, that WJFFM. I am using Cygwin 1.7 but I don't expect that's key. I don't see anything obvious in your cygcheck output. Have you tried looking at the verbose output from 'ssh' to see if it provides some clue? If you have access to the server side and can set debugging on that too, that should help you narrow down where the problem is. -- Larry Hall http://www.rfk.com RFK Partners, Inc. Really. So you could debug on the server side then and see if there's any interaction. If not, it sounds like this is a problem with an outgoing firewall block or other BLODA <http://cygwin.com/acronyms/#BLODA>. -- Larry Hall http://www.rfk.com RFK Partners, Inc. Yeah, probably true. Still worth a look though. <snip> > I had to use control-C to stop this, as it has been hanging at this > point for 5 minutes. Yep, you're clearly getting a hang there. Have you tried this with another machine that wouldn't be a mirror image of the one you're using? Could be a machine specific configuration thing. If it doesn't work for you from more than 1 machine and it's not an external source like BLODA and it's not something on the server side, then it looks like you're stuck trying to debug this in the source. -- Larry Hall http://www.rfk.com RFK Partners, Inc.
