Hi: I am using the gnu-win32 bash with NT 4.0. Whoami is not able to map
the UID to username. Any hints on what needs to be done to make this work?
Thanks....TC

cygwin has almost no NT smarts.
In particular, it thinks everyone has a uid of 500 and a gid of 100.
Hints? Pay Cygnus Solutions money to get this functionality,
buy another product, write your own version ...
