Hi!
When I try to install Cygwin with the latest setup.exe (2.194.2.21) it
hangs after I have selected a mirror server to download from. It manages
to download setup.ini but them immediately comes up with the message
"This space intentionally left blank" and continues to eat up all cpu
cycles. I have tried using .14, .12 and .9 which I found in
cygwin.com/setup-snapshots, but all of these complained about not beeing
the latest version as stated in setup.ini and then hanging like the .21.
My conclusion is that setup.exe does not like my win2000 system. Any ideas?
Cheers
/Jonas

I have tried both "Install from Internet" and "Download from Internet".
On next page I have used the default Local package directory and tried
to specify my own. From the mirror-list I have choosen at least 5
different locations, same hanging result after downloading setup.ini.
Previous attempt to install Cygwin on a (another) win2000 has succeeded.

The problem is solved, partly. I used another user on my win2000 and
then it all worked fine. I have no idea what the difference is, except
that the user that worked does not belong to the admin group.

Sam,
The reason I chided you is that I happen to have inside knowledge that this
is a change ('problem') with the openbox package, not with setup.exe.
Version 0.99.1-3 of openbox installs to /usr/X11R6 (as many users requested)
rather than /usr as used in previous versions of openbox.
Thus, the files you are looking for are in /usr/X11R6/share...
This is the sort of thing that made me hesitant in changing the prefix
from /usr to /usr/X11R6. (Though Chuck had some excellent points that I
don't think can be addressed in any other way.)
So, the question is, does openbox work as expected with the 0.99.1-3
package? Or, is openbox trying to find its files in /usr/share still?

However, it makes sense to discuss this in the forum designed for it
with the people who created the package and let them make this
determination.

As I explained, I suspect the problem is with setup.exe since the
package archive file appears to be perfectly fine. It extracts
correctly using tar but not using setup.exe.

Sam,
You're complaining about openbox, which is a Cygwin/XFree86 package. You
know better than to send this inquiry to the Cygwin list; this discussion
belongs on the Cygwin/XFree86 list, where I have redirected it.

I've just updated fro openbox-0.99.1-2.tar.bz2 to
openbox-0.99.1-3.tar.bz2 on two machines (NT4SP6a and Win95OSR2) and
on both it failed to populate /usr/share/openbox with a "menu" file or
/usr/share/openbox/styles with any style files except "twice."
When I use tar manually all the files are extracted okay so I suspect
the problem is with setup.exe.
(I've also been having the same trouble as others with setup.exe
2.218.2.4 and 2.218.2.6 not working for "Install from Local
Directory." and am having to use 2.194.2.26.)

Some additional information which may be related to this.
When running a self compiled setup.exe under gdb (on W98SE) at this point
(first appearance of chooser) a segment violation is generated.
Just continuing in gdb under W98SE works (the chooser appears and is functional),
but I guess under Win2K/NT/XP this segment violation creates havoc.
The segment violation occurs in PickView every time you change view
(Full/Category/Partial).
This probably should be continued on cygwin-apps.
