I've uploaded these two packages to sourceware and marked them as 'test'
releases. Please try them out, and let me know if there are any
problems. (See below for installation instructions)
CHANGES: zip-2.3-2
o Update to new script-based packaging scheme.
o Added the dospath patch from Michael Schaap --
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2001-06/msg01722.html
Also, see
"Two problems with Cygwin's ZIP":
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2001-06/msg01507.html
"Cygwin: Open or Closed System? (was: two problems with cygwin's zip)":
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2001-06/msg01588.html
"RE: Cygwin: Interoperability Is Important (was Cygwin: Open or Closed
System, etc)":
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2001-06/msg01617.html
Hopefully, this version addresses the problems zip had with DOS-style
paths, while not negatively impacting "normal" (e.g. unixlike) behavior
of cygwin's zip.
CHANGES: unzip-5.50-1
o Update to version 5.50
o Use new script-driven build scheme.
There is a small bug in unzip-5.50 which you may have heard about, but
it only affects 16-bit ports. We're 32bit.

INSTALLATION:
INSTALLATION:
To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link
on the http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your
system. Then, run setup and update the zip and unzip packages. Note
that these 'test' versions will not automatically appear in the chooser
window; you may have to click on the version number a few times before
versions "2.3-2" and "5.50-1" show up.
Note that we have recently stopped downloads from sources.redhat.com
(aka cygwin.com) due to bandwidth limitations. This means that you
will need to find a mirror which has this update.
In the US,
ftp://mirrors.rcn.net/mirrors/sources.redhat.com/cygwin/
is a reliable high bandwidth connection.
In the UK,
http://programming.ccp14.ac.uk/ftp-mirror/programming/cygwin/pub/cygwin/
is usually up-to-date within 48 hours.
If one of the above doesn't have the latest version of this package
then you can either wait for the site to be updated or find another
mirror.
If you have questions or comments, please send them to the Cygwin
mailing list at: cygwin@cygwin.com . I would appreciate if you would
use this mailing list rather than emailing me directly. This includes
ideas and comments about the setup utility or Cygwin in general.
If you want to make a point or ask a question, the Cygwin mailing list
is the appropriate place.

Any objections to marking these two packages as 'current'? In my
testing, they seem to work fine, and the following work (which did not
work previously):
zip foo.zip C:/sys/*
zip foo.zip C:\\AUTOEXEC.BAT C:\\AUTOEXEC.W40
However, this doesn't work:
zip foo.zip C:\\sys\\*
zip warning: name not matched: C:/sys/*
zip error: Nothing to do! (foo.zip)
However, it is useful to note that ls.exe fails in exactly the same way:
it can't match wildcard patterns that contain backslashes:
ls c:\\sys\\*
ls: c:\sys\*: No such file or directory
but wildcard patterns with forward slashes work, and specific filenames
with backslashes work, too. So, this (incomplete, but still better than
the old zip package) support for C: style pathnames seems to be an
improvement over status quo. The failure mode is probably a bash or
cygwin error; if anyone would like to track it down that'd be great --
but I don't think the "problem" is in zip's code...

Okay, since there were no objections, I am going to mark these packages
current.
