Couple of observations concerning the utmp and wtmp files
Are they problems known, or just the way it works.
- last looks to /var/log/wtmp
- login/rlogin/telnet update /var/log/wtmp
- who looks to /var/run/utmp
- seems to work ok if /var/run/utmp and /var/log/wtmp are linked
- rxvt, with the --loginShell and +ut options update neither file
- last does not show previous logins, only active ones
- utmpdump shows mostly empty fields for previous logins
- od -c confirms the information in those fields has been null'ed out (\0's)
- utmpdump has no man page
