Hello

In msg:

http://www.cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2003-08/msg01549.html

with subject:

Re: [ANNOUNCEMENT] update: gnugo-3.4

from Krzysztof Duleba my e-mail adress is visible.

Please remove this ASAP if at all possible since I have
enough trouble dealing with SPAM and sobig.f already.
At gmane ( http://article.gmane.org/gmane.os.cygwin/36140 )
the address is also mangled as it should be.

And for Krzysztof, please don't quote e-mail adresses
in messages to lists.

Thanks

Teun

The annoying thing here is that we have to use our real adresses. If the
server allowed fake adresses, the problem would disapear. Do you believe
that replacing @ with (at) is of any help? I don't.

And the point is?

All that's requested is that people not quote e-mail addresses in replies.
If it's your own address, fair do's. Go ahead. Just don't make that
decision for other people. This is not directed at you personally,
think of it as a public request.

Thanks,

Harvesters that you are so afraid of always read the "from" field in
message header. Look what's written there. See? How do you want your
adress to be protected if it can be extracted so easily from the header?

I ask again: why aren't fake adresses allowed? I'd love to know the policy
that stands behind it.

It's the standard cygwin policy, extended to all of gcc.gnu.org and
sources.redhat.com: We're just mean.

There is no reason for you to use your real address in your message if
the site policy bothers you so much (hint: cgf-rcm-SPLAT-cygwin-PERIOD-com
is not my real address).

Sven isn't subscribed to the mailing-list, otherwise he'd reply

http://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-coreutils/2003-08/msg00129.html
seems to do the job. It adds @bogus.example.com and you only
see the e-mail address using "reply via email to".

I think most sophisticated harvesters know about the "at dot"
thing.

How could I do that if I use news.gmane.org server? It doesn't allow me to
type in any fake address - every new one is checked whether it exists or
not. Address taken from "from" field must be valid.

Thanks.

This ends this discussion. Take gmane-specific issues to gmane, please.

Actually, that simple munging helps a lot, according to this study:

That's nice. Now I have to find out how to force my Outlook to use
