Hello,
after installing the 1.1.0 I recognized that info deos not work. When I try
info tar
I got
info: dir: No such file or directory
although I have tar.info within /usr/info. Am I missing something in my configuration ?
Regards,
Jörg

I used install-info to create the top level node. Since the command has to
be run for each file I used the following:
for FI in `ls /usr/info/*.info` ; do install-info -info-dir /usr/info
/usr/info/$FI ;done
or something like that.

FYI,
When I first read this email, I knew I had found a better way
to do this but I had to search my notes to remember it.
There is a script called gen-dir-node in the utils directory
of dist of texinfo-3.12 (actually, the one from the texinfo-4.0 is
much better since it organizes files into categories).
I copied that to the /usr/local/bin directory then ran:
gen-dir-node /usr/local/info > /usr/local/info/dir
or
cd gen-dir-node
gen-dir-node . > dir
If you want info to use files for a particular directory, you can use:
info --directory /path/to/info
--Kevin
