Hello everyone,
I'm using cygwin 1.7.2 on Windows 7, and I am unable to set the icrnl flag for /dev/ttyS2 as shown at the bottom of my message. The device attached to ttyS2 is a ARM development board which uses an ftdi chip for serial communication over USB.
(The device is connected with USB, and the driver creates a virtual com port.)
I use driver version 2.06.02 from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
(a bit more elaborate:)
I show the problem using stty, but I actually encountered it when testing a serial communications program I've written for linux originally. When compiled under cygwin, it behaves differently. After adding some debug info, it shows indeed that the program recieves an ascii 10 (new line) under linux, where under cygwin it recieves an ascii 13 (carriage return).
How to produce:
(commands & output pasted chronologically)

intr = <undef>; quit = <undef>; erase = <undef>; kill = <undef>; eof = <undef>;

lnext = <undef>; flush = <undef>; min = 0; time = 0;

These settings are not supported on the serial line. Basic I/O is
supported, but no cooked mode. Maybe we can derive the fhandler_serial
class from fhandler_termios instead of from fhandler_base at one point,
but none of the core developers really need and use serial I/O so our
incentive to change that is very low.
Having said that, we certainly appreciate patches to Cygwin's serial
I/O stuff. See http://cygwin.com/contrib.html

It was always my intention to do that when I first implemented
fhandler_termios but testing the serial stuff is such a pain that I
haven't gotten around to it in the last ten years. :-)

Thank you all kindly for the information.
I'm afraid I currently have the competences nor the time to write a
patch to add this feature, and I understand this is not a high priority
issue, so I'll manually work around this limitation for the cygwin build
of my software for now.

Yes, the user account I'm running this on is an administrator account.
Running cygwin as administrator (with right-click, run as ...) does not change
the behavior.
I must add that I am able to successfully change the baud rate, but not able to
change most of the other flags. Changing icrnl does not render an error, but
still nothing changed (see below).
(this is on a Windows 7 VM, other HW is the same)
robbe@eagle764 ~
$ stty -F /dev/ttyS2 onlcr
robbe@eagle764 ~
$ stty -F /dev/ttyS2
speed 9600 baud; line = 0;
intr = <undef>; quit = <undef>; erase = <undef>; kill = <undef>; eof = <undef>;
swtch = <undef>; susp = <undef>; rprnt = <undef>; werase = <undef>;
lnext = <undef>; flush = <undef>; min = 0; time = 0;

-brkint -icrnl -imaxbel
