* Is there anyway to download the Cygwin Users Guide?

I would like to obtain a copy of the Cygwin Users Guide,
either in HTML or PDF format, but can't seem to find such a
file nor any links to one. I have a DIAL-UP account and
don't want to tie-up the phone line longer than necessary.
To be able to read it offline would be a blessing.

Also, in the online Users Guide, there is a link
entitled "legal notice" or something. When clicked,
however, I am given an HTTP 404 error. Either the link has
been mistyped, or the file at the other end has been moved
or deleted.

=====
Sincerely,
  Aaron J. Outhier

Aaron,

SAYSF!

Links to the documents you seek reside here: <http://cygwin.com/docs.html>
(which is itself linked from the main Cygwin page in the "Documents" link
in the left-hand sidebar.

There is a gzipp-ed TAR archive there, too.

By the way, wget is your friend: "wget --help" or "man wget". It's not
necessary in this case because there is an archive available, but on lots
of other sites it's a life-saver!

Dear Randall,
I know about these links, I've seen them before, but they
are not what I'm looking for. The link to the User's Guide
is in multi-page HTML Format. That means I would have to
download each page seperately, and the Tar-Ball (I believe
that's what they are called) has something like 3 or 4
different formats for EACH of 2 or 3 different documents. I
would rather not spend 3 hours downloading it, thanks
anyway! Isn't there anyway/anywhere to get ONE copy of ONE
document in ONE format/encoding?

As for wget, isn't that the program that allows you to
bulk-copy files from the net? Although that would probably
help in the long run, Typing out the URLs for each page
could be time consuming. It may be convenient to put these
commands in a shell script or something, but I'd rather go
"Click-Click-Click-<"Downloading" message displayed by
Browser>-<Happy User>".

Aaron,

The archived documentation file (<http://cygwin.com/cygwin-docs.tar.gz>) is
485 Kbytes. That's about a 1.5 minute download at 56kbps.

If that's unacceptable, then take my other suggestion: Learn to use wget to
mirror Web and FTP sites and pages. Wget can do recursive retrieval of HTML
and wild-card retrieval of FTP files and directories. It provides an
incredible degree of automation and control and you would not need to enter
lots of URLs for an interlinked set of pages such as the Cygwin HTML User
Guide or FAQ (in its multi-page, frame-based format).

You're really making this task out to be much more onerous than it really is.
