I suspect you've just rediscovered ancient knowledge, which dates back
as far as MS-DOS 1.x:
THOU SHALT NOT NAME THINGS "CON", "COM", "NUL" or "PRN"
Those names are reserved for DOS device drivers (similar to, but much
more pervasive, than Unix' /dev/printer' etc.)
