Subject: problem: redirecting output to stdout corrupts data
Date: Mon, 27 May 2002 11:42:00 -0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <8649.1022501017@www29.gmx.net> (raw)

Hi!

Please do the following to reproduce the problem:

tar -czf test1.tar.gz sample.txt

and

tar -czf - sample.txt > test2.tar.gz

The tar.gz files have different size! test2.tar.gz is filled with zeros up
to 10240 bytes, the rest is identical to test1.tar.gz
Is this a bug?

(Opening test2.tar.gz with winzip leads to a warning...)

Best regards
Henning
