I presume htmldoc does not support fontconfig or Opentype compatible Type 1 fonts?
Could you upgrade to use the new fonts by substituting or converting the metric
compatible URW Nimbus Type 1 fonts specified in
/usr/share/fontconfig/conf.avail/30-metric-aliases.conf?
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSans-Bold.afm
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSans-Bold.t1
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSans-BoldItalic.afm
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSans-BoldItalic.t1
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSans-Italic.afm
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSans-Italic.t1
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSansNarrow-BdOblique.afm
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSansNarrow-BdOblique.t1
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSansNarrow-Bold.afm
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSansNarrow-Bold.t1
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSansNarrow-Oblique.afm
