Here are my improved termcap and terminfo entries for cygwin. They work with the current net release, the 5/27/2000 snapshot, and
my fhandler_console.cc patch applied to either. They work better with the patch.

These are slightly modified from the version I posted a couple days ago. They have a tiny bit of added capability and get the
lower-right-hand corner working. They also have one or two things removed to get them in under 1024 bytes.

I tested the termcap file by compiling it with `tic' and verifying its output by testing ncurses programs. Anyone have suggestions
for a better way?

Brad Town

PS I read the messages online, so my replies won't indicate to whom I am replying. If that's a problem, let me know.

After hosing programs with my termcap file created from my terminfo file,
I'll be more careful with such translations. I just can't bear the thought
of maintaining both ... :)

Below is a table detailing the differences between Earnie's terminfo entry he
posted the other day and the one that I now use. The changes necessary to
take advantage of my fhandler_console.cc patch are at the beginning.

vpa \E[%i%p1%dd (none) [Vert. pos. abs.]

==========
Footnotes:
(1) \E[R means nothing as well. He could mean ECMA-48's CPR, but that
    isn't implemented in Cygwin.
(2) Not implemented very usefully in stock Cygwin.
(3) Some programs incorrectly assume that turning off some modes reset
everything. If you want this behavior, keep these set to \E[m.

I'm readying a new release of termcap which will incorporate Earnie's
changes soon. I'm just putting the finishing touches on a script that
will automate this kind of activity.

After that, I will get to Bradley's changes. I'm a little leery of
terminfo -> termcap translated changes since I've had problems with that
before.

I wanted to give my terminfo values for cygwin since Brad had problems with
lrtest. I posted this to cygwin-apps. This cygwin terminfo passed all tests.
My terminfo is below Brads.

Sigh. I broke `less' with the previous termcap entry. The
problem appears to be that either `less' or the termcap
library expects there to be a setting for `sr' (terminfo
`ri') for scrolling text down. You can fix it by adding
"sr=\EM" to the termcap file and "ri=\EM" to the terminfo
file. Modified versions are provided below.

I had left it out because ncurses's `lrtest' gets hosed
after a few seconds if it's set, but that's the only
program I've seen have trouble. That might be attributable
to a bug in cygwin, a bug in ncurses, or a bug in `lrtest'.

Sorry.
