Sorry.

I am enclosing the information you were looking for
in an attachement. I have Visual Fortran loaded.
I suspect it interferes with gcc linking. It shows
up in the file I am enclosing.

Thanks.

Hmm... It appears that your /usr/lib/libkernel32.a may be corrupt. If
you can't find GetModuleHandleA with assorted decorations in your
/usr/lib/libkernel32.a then I suggest that you reinstall the w32api
package.

Earnie.

First thing you ought to do is to look at good at your
environment variables, specifically the following:

  LIBRARY_PATH
  COMPILER_PATH
  C_INCLUDE_PATH
  CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH

and if any of these are set, you should unset them.

Secondly, why are you telling the linker to look in
LCC's and MSVC's library directory!!!! Look at the
file and see references to /cygdrive/e/Program Files/lcc/lib
and also to DevStudio files. Either you're explicitly
adding -L/cygdrive/e/Program Files/lcc/lib or worse, you
have these in LIBRARY_PATH environment variable.

Clean up your environment variables. If you need more
help with this, please post your current environment
variables.

  $ env > /tmp/env.out

and include the /tmp/env.out file.

Regards,
Mumit

gcc uses this variable too.

Earnie,

Thank you very much for your help. I installed the new version
of gcc. It also turned out that
I had to unset LIBRARY_PATH. I set it on DOS (Autoexec.bat) to be able to
use different compilers. When I installed Cygwin it copied the
path. This somehow screwed up the linker.

Thanks.

Rafal

When I'm diagnosing I'm using Cygwin tools. Non-cygwin tools don't know
that /usr/lib == /cygwin/lib.

Ok, try upgrading to gcc-2.95.2-7. You may have to click (maybe more
than once) on the gcc-2.95.2-6 to get it to show the gcc-2.95.2-7
package.

Earnie.

I found GetModuleHandle@4 in /cygwin/lib/libkernel32.a.
It shows up in several places there. But my /cygwin/usr/lib is empty.
Should it be empty? The error I get mentions /usr/lib/libcygwin.a
which I do not have.

You were supposed to substitute the program you're building and having
problems with. My use of foo is commonly used to mean a fictitious item
to be substituted by some real value.

No such thing. But it also says at the top:
"gcc: foo.c: No such file or directory.
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-cygwin/2.95.2-6/specs"

I thought you had asked for the gcc version.

I've been using g77 and combined g77/gcc programs for quite awhile and
never had a problem. All I did was use the setup program to install
cygwin... nothing special.

I can't say I have any advice.. just wanted to pass along that at least one
person has had no problems.

It's been 20 years since I've fortran'ed. I don't even remember enough
to come up with a minimal Hello World and have no desire to hunt. Since
gcc doesn't work either then I'm guessing it's your environment and I
was looking for information about your environment.

Earnie.

Hi,

Thanks for responding.

gcc -v -o foo foo.c gives:

gcc version 2.95.2-6 19991024 (cygwin experimental).

I think the problem is with linker. g77 also doesn't
link.

Rafal

What version of GCC?

What does `gcc -v -o foo foo.c' give?

Earnie.

Hi,

If I attempt to compile anything with gcc, g77 etc, I get a message:

"/usr/lib/libcygwin.a(_cygwin_crt0_common.o)(.text+0xe6):_cygwin_crt0_c:
undefined
reference to 'GetModuleHandle@4'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status"

It does not happen in Windows 98.

I am enclosing cygcheck.out file.

Thanks.
