Hi all,

I was upgrading my cygwin instalation while during execution postinstall scripts dozens of
error popup windows strated to appear:

cygpath.exe | sed.exe | basename.exe | rm.exe | ln.exe | uname.exe | expr.exe - Entry
Point Not Found

The procedure entrypoint __getreent could not be located in the dynamic library
cygwin1.dll.

After all I got this window:
Instalation incomplete. Please see setup.log for details.

I found nothing interesting there so I took a look at setup.full.log, but still no idea
what is the reason of my problem. Should I send it to the grmailing list? It's almost 1
MB, so maybe I should compress it?

Moreover none of the cygwin apps work although I get my normal bash prompt when invoking
rxvt.

Please help.
Greetings

Probably your the cygwin1.dll was not unloaded when you've done the
setup.
Remark : don't forget to stop cygwin services (sshd, ...)

Maybe, but why?

None was running.

I tried another thing: I have a local package directory, where I keep all the cygwin
packages I download. Normally when I wanted to uninstall something and after some tine i
installed it once again the installer worked without any problems. Now i tried to
reinstall all the base category - the error messages appeared again. They were:

sh.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point __getedid32 could not be located in the dynamic library
cygwin1.dll.

What now?

If you had Cygwin processes running, cygwin1.dll was locked and could not
be replaced by setup. As a result, you got newer apps installed, but
tried running them with an older cygwin1.dll, which was missing some
functions.

Reboot. Setup uses the "replace on reboot" flag if it's unable to
overwrite a file. If you reboot, your cygwin1.dll should be updated to
the newer version. If not, please get back to the list with the output of
"cygcheck -svr" as an uncompressed text *attachment* (as indicated in
<http://cygwin.com/problems.html>).

Hi Thomasz,

my guess: You've selected all new packages, but setup.exe does not install them according their dependencies (IIRC this is not implemented yet). So installing the new ash will fail any postinstall scripts until also the new cygwin dll is installed ...

So, install cyqwin dll first and only (should be backward compatible) and thean any of the other packages.

Regards,
Jörg
