On my redhat 6.0 system I installed:

 sgml-common-0.1-4mdk.i586.rpm

docbook-3.1-11mdk.i586.rpm 
stylesheets-0.10-2.noarch.rpm
psgml-1.2.1-1.noarch.rpm 
jade-1.2.1-4.i386.rpm 
jadetex-2.7-0.noarch.rpm 

but I can't seem to make anything useful happen (I have the docbook book,
but haven't read it yet).

Doing

Dear Marty,

Can you tell me what the "mdk" stuff is all about in a couple of your
RPMs?  The versions on the ftp site do not have "mdk" revision numbers
in them.

Also, the docbook RPM should be "noarch" and not "i586".  Same for
sgml-common.

Ok, the problem here is that Jade can't find a catalog entry that maps the
public id in your document to a system id on your system. I bet it's because
you've only got DocBook 3.1 in your catalog file.

The easiest way to fix this is probably to change the FPI in your document
from 

  -//Davenport//DTD DocBook V3.0//EN

to

  -//OASIS//DTD DocBook V3.1//EN

Let me know if that doesn't help ...

mdk stuff was on the rpmfind.net site...I just got the newest ones...

That may be a problem...I backed it out and installed everything off
the cygnus site.

Now I'm getting:

got solved.

Did you figure it out?  TeX needs some config files to be changed.
You can look in this mailing list archive: the question comes up every
week or so, so there are many postings with the solution!

'mdk' signifies an RPM from the Linux-Mandrake distribution.

Is there an up-to-date description of what has to be
done (installing docbook was far more trying than I would have
liked).

Now I have to build it from source ;-)

Is it included in redhat 6.1?
