Hmmm, let's see.  I am using the Sun JDK version 1.4.2_01.  I start my Eclipse 
with this command:

	./eclipse/eclipse -vm /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_01/bin/java

and all appears well.  I am using the eclipse-SDK-2.1.1-linux-gtk.zip and 
cdt-full-1.-linux-gtk.zip for the CDT stuff.  I put those zip files in my home 
directory and unzipped them which created an "eclipse" directory in my home 
directory.

How about you?  What versions are you running?
