Does this actually cause a problem? Or does it reduce performance due to the
extra context switch?

Since you have looked at the later FreeBSD code and found a fix, could you
produce a possible fix we can test?

Yeah, this is a real problem and a serious one.  I had tftp transfers timing
out every 50 packets from this.

Later versions of FreeBSD (than ecos is using) show a fix for this.
