Perhaps limiting one's efforts to porting the client side of these
packages would be feasible and useful.

Potentially. But has anyone cross built RHDB/postgresql before at all?
Normally just adapting a "native" package for cross compilation is quite an
effort in itself, never mind the actual porting. If they have, then maybe
it wouldn't be so difficult after all...
